The content of this short book is based on 30 years of teaching the oboe, mostly spent working in LEA peripatetic music services. Over those years, I developed my own ways of explaining things to get across to my pupils the priorities of basic technique. I always found humour a very useful tool. Youngsters will always remember silly things better than sensible things.

All essential techniques are dealt with. There is a section of exercises at the end of the book, entitled "Nasties for Oboe", which I devised for introducing or improving certain fingering problems.
